Logistics

Maybe you have received this email going around:

Did anyone besides me wonder how they got all those signs printed and distributed far and wide, including to all the national parks and cemeteries overseas only eight to ten hours after the government shut down?  Take a look at this from someone who wanted to remain anonymous.

I have worked in the government on and off for 40 years.  During that time I became quite familiar with requisitions, bidding, awarding contracts etc.  It is a time consuming process with bean-counters and pencil-necked bureaucrats every step of the way.  The simplest request takes months not days or hours.

In less than 8 hours of the shutdown, miraculously, professionally printed 3X4 foot signs appeared all over the country in the tens of thousands saying-“this [park, facility, etc. with custom logos] closed due to government shutdown.  There has not been a government shutdown in 17 years.  These signs were designed, specifications were determined, signs were then requisitioned, bids were posted and vetted, government contracts were awarded.  The materials were then ordered and the signs manufactured then distributed U.S. Mails or freight companies.

This shutdown was orchestrated and planned well in advance at least 6-8 months ago.  Millions of tax dollars were appropriated and spent in this process.  There is a paper trail a mile long leading directly to the White House.

I never thought about all those signs and TV coverage until I read this.  I smell skunk and there is more going on around us  than we even want to know.

I am not happy with our government or what is going on in our country though there is little I can do about it.  Even Putin is now seen as the world leader over our president.

    1. Gorges, I want to thank you this morning for all the support you have given to me writing this blog. What free time I have I spend developing ideas and topics into blogs and I don't read other blogs as much as I want to. Maybe I will do better this winter. Your blog and those on my reading list have been an inspiration to me and I wanted to tell you that publicly. I hope our paths cross sometime before it's too late.

  2. I am glad this person who does not exist does not work for the government anymore if it's how he used to work. A NAT farmer who also has a job in one of these federal facilities actually posted how the signs at least for his facility were ordered as a rush job 'after' the government shutdown.

There was also another threat to a government shutdown some years back, it is not impossible that such signs were made in preparation at that time but used only now. It is also not impossible that all federal managers are incompetent and that some plan things at least a day ahead and had the signs made just in case. Managing includes planning for every contingency.

Some people would believe any false rumor about Obama, including anonymous conspiracy posts on the Internet such as this one. You can be sure that if there was a "paper trail" leading to the White House from 6-8 months ago, there would be ample proof of it published in the media by now, not anonymously in a conservative site or the usual chain mail. This is pitiful. Aren't there enough real facts they can use about Obama, like his horrible management of the PPACA, which makes him look like he actually want to abort his own baby instead of having him born in the best conditions, with his own college savings account to fund him for the next 10 years?

  3. Come on Chimel, how did they get all those signs up the day of closure?

Do you think it wasn't well thought out well in advance?

It just makes too much sense to me.

    Yes I am very skeptical.

  4. Could have been thought out in advance, but if so, it was just normal planning, that's what they teach you in management courses, risk management and contingency planning are just as important in the political life as in a business. A 6-8 month conspiracy (led by who? Obama?) would have left a paper and money trail that conservatives would have found long before. Don't you thing that what is suspicious is 1) the timing of such a post, 2) the Internet anonymity of that poster, and 3) the total lack of evidence of what they advance? I have seen enough of these conspiracy letters to know that they are the most despicable and false type of political argumentation there is, let's stick to known facts, not to the delirium of these trolls, please.

On the other hand, we do have a known farmer on NAT who works for a federal facility and posted how they got their sign(s) in just a few hours. It takes minutes to print such signs, and I doubt sign makers are bursting with activity these recession days, but even so, they could easily have inserted such a rush job into their normal schedule.
