War?

Joe in North Carolina found this and sent it to me.  War over seeds and chemicals?

This report might be a little far fetched I don't believe it didn't happen.  There is so much going on in the world now we don't know about, probably for our own good.  The president's debacles include accusations much far reaching than this one for now.

This article is about bees and neonicotinides, the best insecticide I ever found for my corn seedlings.  I do have concern about it myself.  Some farmers can't keep it contained because of the design of the planter.  It blows the dust out onto the field and contaminate the bees.  The demise of the small family farm may have helped lead to this or even caused the demise of the small family farm.

How can we survive?  I don't know that we can, but I sure hope we can.  I notill non GMO seed into the best soil I can provide.  I lower the water table with tile and use calcium and gypsum to maximize air and water movement.  I can see so much improvement over the plow, disk, and manure we used in the 60's it isn't even funny.

Do you think we will go to war over seeds and chemicals?  We could, but I don't think so, at least I hope not.

I am concerned about the bee depopulation and I am concerned about GMO's in our food system.  I can only do for either what I think is best for me.  That is what is best for mankind or I wouldn't do it.

It has always been a complicated world in my lifetime but it was a little simpler when I was a child.  I am sure my dad and grandpa said the same thing.

Our farm is all planted to non GMO seed.  Our soil is in place.  Our lime and fertilizer has been applied.  Our seedlings are all up or coming up and that is about all I can do but control the weeds and other pests here on out.

That is a war all within itself.

What about you?

Ed
PS Sorry about the poor graphics yesterday, I need to replace or repair that.

  1. "On 26 March, Obama quietly signed this “Monsanto Protection Act” into law thus ensuring the American people have no recourse against this bio-tech giant as they fall ill by the tens of millions, and many millions will surely end up dying in what this MRNE report calls the greatest agricultural apocalypse in human history" <-quote from the article you linked

This is propaganda. News does not fear monger like this. When I see articles like this it makes me mad. It causes a distrust of American agriculture. The graphics within the article insinuate that agricultural is evil. This form of activist journalism should be condemned.

Funny to me that the issues of seed treatment was used attack gmo.

American agriculture will take any necessary steps to protect bees. American agriculture is responsible.

    1. Yes obama signed it. Did the article insinuate that millions of people are going to fall ill? Was there any justification for the claim? GMO's have NOT been proven unsafe. That article qualifies as propaganda and should be condemned. It is defamatory to American agriculture. Propaganda like this is the ONLY reason for the public concern over gmo's. There are no facts that support the concern.

  3. I fear anonymous is living in a never-never land. SMALL farmers generally ARE responsible. Agribiz outfits are NOT. Monsanto is the perfect example. Suing farmers whose corn THEY ruined - yep, that's how you make friends.

    1. The article is propaganda. Its inaccurate and attempts to scare people. It tarnishes the name of American agricultural. Ed wrote just the other day about how we all have the right to a good name. I agree.

  4. It well may be propaganda David and Gorges but I do not know. I do not want to be known for spreading propaganda for sure but the article did make me think.

Is it true? I don't know. I think we will all find out in the long run.

    1. Thank you Ed for sharing the article. I appreciate the opportunity to let what I consider the truth to be heard I think you and I are much the same. We want what is best for the future. I think gmo technology integral to solving the problems of an expanding population. If gmo's are proven unsafe, I will quickly join a group that condemns them. They have yet to be proven unsafe.

We are currently receiving some much needed precipitation. It is a beautiful evening. Hope all is well in your neck of the woods.

  5. From what I've seen, David, I don't trust GMO or glyphosate one bit.
