Why I Can't Vote For Obama

The election is only 30 days away.  Many of us cannot wait for it to be over.  Our phone rings all day long and much of it is robocalls and political calls.  I have had the best conversation about this important election this week with family, friends and neighbors.

One neighbor shocked me.  He said "Romney scares me."  My first thought is what the heck, Obama has scared me since he took down the Clinton Political Machine 5 years ago!  I mean really, Romney scares you?  You need to do a little more research!

I can't support the Democratic Party because of their moral beliefs.  I did at one time, when I thought abortion was really the woman's choice.  As I have grown older, I understand there is much more to it than that.  A woman can't get pregnant by herself, she has to have some help!  Where does man fit into all of this?

This man, me,  tries to accept his responsibility so I study the issues.  If I am truly a Christian or at the very least believe in a Higher Power, how could I possibly support Obama for President?  I can't.  If you can, can you please explain why?

There are tons of reasons why I cannot support President Obama

1.  Abortion
2.  Same Sex Marriage
3.  Redistribution of Wealth
4.  Bankrupt Green Energy Projects
5.  Unemployment
6.  No Federal Budget
7.  Czars
8,  Bowing Down to other countries and cultures
9. The Deficit
10. Arrogance

These are just a few of the ones that quickly came to me.  There are many other reasons.  The biggest one is "our country is going down the drain, and really fast!'  That is the title of an email going around about a lady on the public dole trying to buy a new Ford Focus.  That is just one small example.

I think my readers know where I stand and I probably didn't need to write this blog.  I do because the future  of  our country has been on everyones mind since the debates the other night.  The debate proved to me the failure of this president and sadly, the blood on his hands since the murder of our citizens at our Embassy.

Farmers have seen record grain prices under Obama but our costs are so high it all washes out.

I pray for a much more stable government and not the bleeding and hemorraging we've seen the past 4 years.

If you support Obama, why?

  1. I commend you for voting according to your conscience, but for me, a president is for the whole nation. I wouldn't want to impose abortion on a raped teenager who is anti-abortion anymore than I would want to impose a full unwanted pregnancy on the same person if she wants an abortion. Both beliefs are equally morally justified, the government's only job is to make sure that both can be exercised. Many Christians also support abortion, in full or under certain conditions.

Same for same sex marriage. I don't understand what the fuss is about. Is it really about gay marriage, or about gay families, or just against gays in general? Why would a gay parent need special permission to pick up their own kids at school, or be denied visiting his partner in hospital, or not inherit from his partner after an accident like any other couple?

This pie chart shows in which way other people's business affects us:

I think we should leave such religious matters out of the political debate, just like Romney and Obama both did during their own debate this week.

I don't think Obama and Romney are that much different in these other matters, Romney also supports "redistribution of wealth", although his tax rate for the wealthy is less than Obama's. The half billion loss in Solyndra could probably have happened to anybody, the civil servants are probably the most culprit for not seeing that Solyndra solar panels were very expensive to build and that Chinese competition was already ruining their plans.

Obama's promise of decreasing unemployment rate to less than 8% hold true, although it's more like 15% if you include underemployment (part time jobs). Federal jobs have been on the increase for the past 3 months too, so I guess that part was artificial interference from Obama for his reelection, but their numbers hardly amount to anything in the global scheme. Unemployment rate would have gone under 8% regardless. I am not qualified to know if he could have done more during his 4-year tenure, or if Romney's plans to lower taxes would create the millions of jobs he says it would, so I won't take part in this debate.

To prove I'm fair about both candidates, I'll add some oil to your fire, since I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else: Did you know that the U.S. paid for the restoration of the tomb of a Muslim courtesan poetess and her mother in Hyderabad, India last year?
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mah_Laqa_Bai
Beautiful monument, and probably not much money involved, but such usage of U.S. funds at this time seems almost obscene and can only reenforce the anti-Muslim feeling in the U.S.

But no, I won't explain why you should vote for Obama or anybody else for that matter, it would be presumptuous of me.

    What's that about Czars?

  5. The Czars has cost this nation and their president a lot of money in our downward spiral.

I did not address the deficit which is more than huge and huge on my mind. I don't believe in spending money you never have hope to payback. What happens when China wants their $1.7 trillion? How much is that really? Can we afford the interest? No, we have fallen behind.

We are going to make Greece look like a grease spot and Spain will be the unraveling of the whole thing.

I felt the same way about abortion but I cannot now. With learning comes responsibility. Once I know what is right and wrong, I cannot support wrong. Abortion is murder, even to the raped teen and her baby.

I can see why anyone would not trust a Republican candidate, they have been their own worst enemy and also have done harm to our nation.

Mitt Romney on the other hand, is a good and decent man. I do believe he can turn the economy around. Obama has proven he cannot.

And no, I am not surprised and have been shocked for years for the stupidity the American taxpayer has paid for while their investment in Social Security and Medicare has been squandered away by both parties.

    Thanks to all for comments.

  6. Here is the email on the Ford Dealership:
    Tom Selkis' (Latham Ford) Facebook..........
True story yesterday at the dealership.....

"I'll try to make this as short and to the point as I can.

One of my salesmen here had a woman in his office yesterday wanting to lease a brand new Focus. As he was reviewing her credit app with her he noticed she was on social security disability. He said to her you don't look like you're disabled and unable to work. She said "well I'm really not, I could work if I wanted to but I make more now then I did when I was working and got hurt" (non-disabling injury). She said the gov't sends her $1500.00 a month in 1 check; she gets $700.00 a month on an EBTcard (food stamps), and $800.00 a month for rent. Oh yeah and 250 mins free on her phone. That is just south of $3500.00 a month.

When she was working she was taking home about $330.00 per week. Do the math and then ask yourself: "why the hell should she go back to work?"

If you multiply that by millions of people you start to realize the scope of the problem we face as a country. Once the socialists have 51% of the population in that same scenerio we are finished and we are real, real close. The question is: when do we cross that threshold - if we haven't already?

She didn't lease the Focus here because the dealer down the road beat our deal by $10.00 month. Glad to know she is so frugal with her "hard earned" money!
GOD SAVE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA !!

  7. Well that woman got the food stamps, rent allocation and phone minutes even when she worked for $330 per week, so the only lesson there is how poorly paid people are. At the federal minimum wage rate of $7.25, $330 means she worked 9 hours a day.

In that case though, she is clearly abusing her disability check so she's really an exception to the system. In most cases, people would still be better off working even at minimum wages, so you'd never get 51% of the working population unemployed. This has never happened with previous Democrat presidents, not even mentioning really socialist countries.

Plus you'd soon run into problems of supply and demand: There are just not enough non-jobs for everybody! ;)

  8. The point is we need jobs instead of hand outs. America needs to learn to work again and not expect %50,000 like so many used to make with a high school diploma!

    Good points and great discussion!

  9. Agree, but it's not like we need the one or the other, we need both. Unemployment and underemployment combined are just under 15%, and that's not even counting those who dropped out of the system completely, that's a lot of misery right there, and such hand outs are no different from what the churches do with their food and shelter programs.

  10. It's the church's role to help the needy and we as individuals. I don't see it as the government's role. When the government does it, it is to cover up policies that failed before the need. Once government gets in that role, it never gets out.

  11. Late answer, but somehow I never get any notifications of new comments from Blogger.
I don't think helping the needy is only the Church's responsibility. That's exactly what the government's responsibility is about, helping every person in the country who needs the help. You don't get to govern only for the rich.

The Church can only provide so much, like food and sometimes shelter. It does not provide healthcare, jobs, permanent housing, education and all these things that would help these people rise above the level of poverty. By that thinking, you would have every student pay $20K a year to go to college, remove all forms of subsidy to agriculture (including most crop insurance), and get rid of a lot of things that we take for granted.

I think we should do both, and fill in the gaps between what the government can do and what is decent to do. But it would be too much pride to say that this role belongs to the Church. Personally I chose to give $50 a month to Oxfam (and have my employer add another $50) because it was the only non-religious charity I could find. Their values are universal human rights, and they don't put any limitation on "universal".
